Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCÉ)

Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann – meaning Society of the Musicians of Ireland – is the main organisation dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional music, song and dance.  Founded in 1951, Comhaltas is a non-profit cultural movement with hundreds of local branches around the world.

The Oriel Centre

Based in Dundalk Gaol, the Oriel Centre is one of eight regional resource centres under the auspices of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann servicing the five north eastern counties of Cavan, Monaghan, Louth, Meath and Armagh.  The centre is a resource centre, a visitor attraction, a social and a performance space and provides facilities for teaching, archives, recording, rehearsal, performance and session playing.

Scoil Cheoil na Botha

“A real gem amongst the festivals in Monaghan is the traditional music Festival of Scoil Cheoil na Botha which copper-fastens the notion that those events created by artists and musicians for their own community cannot be bettered.”  Held every October in Scotstown, Co. Monaghan.

Féile na Tána

Curated by John McIntyre and Zoë Conway, this traditional music festival is held annually in Carlingford, Co. Louth on the first weekend in February.


Now in its 21st year. The word “NYAH ” refers to the very expression of the tradition … to its lift or “soul”.   This is a festival of all things Cavan. NYAH festival celebrates the traditional music, song, dance and culture of County Cavan, the Ulster tradition and the county’s very own musical style.

The Gerry Whelan Memorial Weekend

Organised by the Cootehill branch of Comhaltas every September, the Gerry Whelan Memorial Weekend honours a great stalwart of traditional music with concerts, workshops and sessions.
